Birds are often used to describe freedom of movement and rightfully so. ‘Free as a bird’ they say, but nobody ever talks about how fast birds can get, which is a shame because some birds are incredibly fast. Whether it the desire to migrate faster, to evade predators, or to be better hunters, some birds have evolved the ability to fly at amazing speeds, speeds that no ground creatures can achieve naturally.
Over the next few minutes, we’ll take a look at the ten fastest birds in the world in our quest to find out what exactly is the fastest one and just how fast can it fly?
9Teal – 109 km/h
The Eurasian teal is a common duck that migrates south during the winter like many other ducks. The reason why it’s called ‘teal’ is because of the fact that it is the smallest dabbling duck in the world. Whenever the teal isn’t migrating, it usually flocks around with a big number of other teals. When it is migrating, however, it will evade predators at amazing speeds, at least when it’s not tired enough.
