Until his recent death, the biggest dog in the world was called Zeus, and he was a Great Dane. It is not yet known what other dogs in the world today come close to Zeus’ 44 inches (111.8 cm) length from feet to withers, his 155 lbs (70.3 kg) in weight, or his 7’4″ height when standing on his hind legs.
Although the quest for the world’s biggest dog is still ongoing, there are plenty of other breeds one could choose from if a big dog is what they’re after. It has to be said however, that even though Great Danes are well known for being the largest dog breed in the world, there are a few other breeds that grow to impressive sizes. Let us then take a look at the ten largest dog breeds in the world.
10Caucasian Shepherd Dog
Impressive in size, Caucasian Shepherd Dogs do not really grow in weight that much, most of their size being given by their impressive fur. A fully grown adult can grow about 28 inches tall and can weight around 99 pounds. Although sturdy, intelligent, and quite obedient as a breed, the Caucasian Shepherd Dog is well known for having an aggressive temperament. Most of the time, as the name suggests, Caucasian Shepherd Dogs are used in the Caucus Mountains by shepherds to fend off potential predators.
