Ancient Greeks have contributed to our civilization more than most people realize, unfortunately, from mathematics to fine arts and beyond. It would take us ages to go through all the benefits we enjoy as a result of Greek ingenuity and long-term vision, so we won’t even try. We will, however, remind ourselves that ancient Greeks were phenomenal artists as well, and we have plenty of evidence to confirm it.
So over the next few minutes, we’ll go over some of the most influential sculptures of the Ancient World. There is really no surprise that most of them are Greek, as the Greeks have long been masters of sculpture and architecture. Without further ado, here are the ten most famous greek sculptures of all times.
10Statue of Zeus and Ganymede
Greeks had a fascination with the human body and how beautiful it is in its purest form. It is for this reason that most Greek sculptors in Ancient Greece spend their lives perfecting the ability to reproduce the human body to the best of their ability. This particular statue was found in Olympia and it is believed to have been made in 470 BC. It also has to be mentioned that the terracotta is painted which gives it a nice glow.
