Rainforests contain some of the most diverse ecosystems on our planet. In fact, more than half of the world’s species of animals live in the rainforest and some of them are absolutely weird. For various reasons, some of these creatures have developed some very strange characteristics, traits that make them stand out from all the animals we are accustomed to. Over the next few minutes, we’ll take a look at ten of the strangest creatures who have made the rainforest their home.
These are aquatic salamanders by nature, yet they suffer a very strange mutation very early in their lives. Their funny appearance (half fish/half lizard) is attributed to the fact that their metamorphosis from the larval to adult stage does not complete as with most salamanders. They instead maintain traits from both stages and even though they do turn into fully grown salamanders at some point, they do so while developing some very strange features. They also lose their gills and develop lungs later in life and can mostly be found in many rivers across the Mexican rainforest.
