5The Dorabella Cipher
The Dorabella Cipher was written more than a hundred years ago by Edward Elgar in a letter to a young friend, Miss Dora Penny, the 22-year-old of the Reverand Alfred Penny. This entire letter was written in a cipher which even a century later, is yet to be broken. There have been many attempts to solve this particular cipher but all of them have been unsatisfactory. Even so, the cipher has been published repeatedly and anyone willing to have a go at it can easily find it online.
